Nha Trang Changes Its New Coat

Welcome to Nha Trang, the beautiful coastal city that is preparing to put on a completely new look! From July 1, 2025, Nha Trang officially enters a new administrative era with important changes in boundaries, promising to bring a more convenient and attractive travel experience than ever.

If we consider the official name, it is no longer "Nha Trang City", but instead: 1. North Nha Trang Ward; 2. Nha Trang Ward, 3. South Nha Trang Ward; 4. West Nha Trang WardTherefore, we can understand that when talking about "Nha Trang", it is still implicitly understood as the place name of Nha Trang in the past, because the administrative boundaries of Nha Trang have not changed.

I. Nha Trang "Changes Its New Look": Updating Administrative Boundaries From July 1, 2025

1.1. Four New Wards – Four Development Directions

From July 1, 2025, according to Resolution No. 1667/NQ-UBTVQH15 dated June 16, 2025 of the National Assembly Standing Committee, Nha Trang city will be officially rearranged into 4 ward-level administrative units. This change was officially announced on June 30, 2025, marking an important turning point in urban management and development. Previously, Nha Trang had 22 communes and wards. The streamlining of the administrative apparatus from 22 units to 4 wards is not only aimed at reducing the workload and improving management efficiency but also demonstrates a strategic vision. This merger allows the city to concentrate resources and orient development more clearly for each area, creating favorable conditions for urban planning, economic development and especially tourism. Initial proposals may vary, for example, the 3-ward option was once proposed. , or consider not arranging some special wards/communes. However, the final Resolution clearly defined the structure of 4 wards, which is the most official and reliable information for all future activities.  

4 new wards of Nha Trang include:

• Nha Trang Ward: This will be the central ward, formed on the basis of merging the entire natural area and population size of the wards. Van Thanh, Loc Tho, Vinh Nguyen, Tan Tien and Phuoc HoaWith an area of 47.12 km² and a population of 136,118 people, this will be the vibrant heart of the city, where the main commercial, service and tourism activities are concentrated. The new administrative headquarters of the ward will be located at 42 Le Thanh Ton, the former headquarters of the People's Committee of Nha Trang City, ensuring convenience for residents and visitors when contacting for work. The merger of these important inner-city wards into a single administrative unit shows the priority in centralized management and synchronous development of the city's core area.  
• North Nha Trang Ward: Includes the entire area and population of the wards Vinh Hoa, Vinh Hai, Vinh Phuoc, Vinh Tho, and two communes of Vinh Luong and Vinh PhuongWith a significantly larger area of 97.04 km² and a population of 128,239 people, this ward will play an important role in developing the northern areas of the city, especially new urban and eco-tourism projects along Vinh Luong Pass. The Ward People's Council and People's Committee headquarters is located at 744 2/4 Street., facilitating the management and service of people in this large area.  
• West Nha Trang Ward: Formed from wards Ngoc Hiep, Phuong Sai and the communes of Vinh Ngoc, Vinh Thanh, Vinh Hiep, Vinh Trung. The administrative headquarters is located at the People's Committee of Vinh Ngoc commune - No. 480 Luong Dinh Cua. This is an area where urban, tourism and nature intersect, with planning focusing on urban beautification and eco-tourism. The merger of suburban communes into this ward shows the orientation of expanding urban space and developing new residential areas, while still maintaining the characteristics of suburban areas.  
• South Nha Trang Ward: Merging wards Phuoc Hai, Phuoc Long, Vinh Truong, with the communes Vinh Thai and Phuoc Dong. Headquarters located at Vinh Thai Commune People's Committee - My Gia Urban Area, Thuy Tu Village. This is the southern central area, with strong potential for urban and service development, especially new urban area projects and traffic infrastructure connecting with neighboring areas.  

The consolidation of smaller administrative units into larger wards, named after geographical directions or cities, is not simply a change in quantity. It is a strategic move to optimize management, allocate resources more effectively and promote coordinated development between areas. By grouping areas with similar characteristics or complementary development potential, cities can come up with more appropriate policies and projects, thereby improving the quality of life for residents and the experience for visitors.

1.2. The Heart of Tourism still belongs to Nha Trang Ward

The identification of these important tourist destinations as belonging to the new Nha Trang Ward is inferred from the published administrative boundary information. Specifically, Hon Mieu and Hon Tam were previously known to belong to Vinh Nguyen Ward, Nha Trang City. According to the new Resolution, Vinh Nguyen Ward is one of the old wards that will be completely merged into the new Nha Trang Ward. Therefore, according to the logic of administrative boundaries, Hon Mieu and Hon Tam will be under the management of the new Nha Trang Ward.  

As for Hon Mun, although located in the south of Hon Tre Island and about 14km from the city center, it is still an integral part of Nha Trang Bay and is recognized as the most important marine reserve in Vietnam. Popular tours often connect Hon Mun with other islands in the bay, and the main starting point for island tours is Vinh Truong port, now in Tay Nha Trang Ward.

The consolidation of Nha Trang Bay’s main islands and attractions into a single ward – Nha Trang Ward – brings significant benefits. Instead of having to find out which ward each small island belongs to, visitors now only need to remember that the most famous island destinations are located in the “heart” of the city. 2.1. Move and explore easier

Nha Trang city is not too big, with the main road running along the beach, making moving around the city easy and convenient. Visitors can choose to rent a motorbike, a service often available at hotels, to freely explore local cuisine and unique corners of the city. For those who prefer public transport, bus routes, such as route 18, are also a convenient and affordable option. In addition, reputable airport shuttle and travel services are always available, ensuring your journey is smooth from the moment you arrive in Nha Trang.

From Nha Trang tourist wharf, located in the old Vinh Truong area and now belongs to Tay Nha Trang Ward With the new location, visitors can easily choose to take a boat or canoe to Hon Mun, Hon Tam, Hon Mot and other destinations in the bay. The changes in administrative boundaries at the ward level do not affect the main traffic routes or access to the island tourist attractions. • Ideal timing: Nha Trang has a relatively mild climate, with a dry season lasting from January to August and no cold winter. Therefore, visitors can visit all year round. From April to the end of June, the weather is hot but not too hot. From September there is scattered rain, and from October to December there is more rain but it usually does not affect recreational activities too much, especially island tourism. This gives visitors flexibility in choosing the time to travel to suit their personal schedule.
